Dreaming of your very own classroom?
CCSD’s alternative route to licensure teacher training program has a new name: the Accelerated Licensure Teacher Academy (ALTA). ALTA gives aspiring teachers an accessible, innovative, and supportive pathway to a successful career in Clark County schools. The program opens the doors to a teaching career in Clark County to anyone with the dedication and desire to lead a challenging, student-centered classroom—from college grads to career changers with a wealth of knowledge to share with our students.
Our $500 training fee plus $55 background check fee makes ALTA one of the most affordable certification programs in the nation. Participants attend a 10-week training academy and complete 20 field experience days in a CCSD classroom. Upon successful completion of the Academy, teachers can apply for a conditional teaching license.
Here’s what past candidates have to say about the ALTA program!
Current Programs Offered

The ALTA Program At-A-Glance
$500 covers all pre-service (pre-hire) training fees.
An additional $55 will be needed for the background check.
All cohorts are approximately 10 weeks in length.
Commitment includes one weeknight (3-4 hours) and Saturdays (6 hours).
Teacher candidates spend 20 days in a classroom working with and teaching CCSD students.
Field experience days do not need to be consecutive, but must be completed by the end of the cohort.
Candidates must pass all required testing to be considered for acceptance into ALTA.
Successful teacher candidates receive recommendations from their cooperating teachers and a representative of the ALTA program.
Those candidates who are long-term/vacancy substitutes during the program will also need a recommendation from their current administrator.
An ALTA Certificate of Completion is awarded once a teacher candidate successfully passes all portions of the program.
This certificate is needed to be eligible for hire and to apply for your conditional license with the Nevada Department of Education.
ALTA teachers apply for an Alternative Route to Licensure conditional teaching license with the Nevada State Department of Education upon successful completion of the program.
This license is valid for three (3) years at any CCSD public school (charter schools excluded).
