Star Graduates 2020 – Las Vegas Academy of Arts

By | Achievements, Community, Graduation, Schools Info | No Comments

Las Vegas Academy of the Arts Star Graduate, Airius Fa’afiu, uses her artistic talents to benefit Las Vegas with community service and starting her own business. As a 2D design major, Airius uses a combination of media in my art. She plans to attend UNLV Honors College in the fall, majoring in Biological Sciences.

One of her most successful accomplishments was managing a significant community service project this year. “I had always had the idea to collaborate with homeless artists and hold an art gallery to give back to the artists. “Home is Where The Art is” was a success as we held a gallery of about 20 artworks. We sold all of the pieces earning over $1000 and received numerous donations of food and clothing. The project was later recognized by PublicServiceNV with a Gratitude Award in the category of Human Kindness.”

Maintaining a 4.7 weighted GPA, Airius explained a recurring challenge she faces is balancing good grades in rigorous courses, growing a successful business in her art brand, community service, household responsibilities, and maintaining a healthy emotional and physical lifestyle. She is supported by a great system of friends and family that helps her to keep balance.

Star Graduates 2020 – College of Southern Nevada High School (East)

By | Achievements, Community, Graduation, Schools Info | No Comments

I am pleased to recommend Isaac Garcia as CSN East High School’s Star Grad. I have only known this student for a few months as the previous counselor left in September. However, in the short time Isaac has distinguished himself at the College of Southern Nevada High School. I feel Issac embodies all that is good about young people today: dedication, passion and determination.

As a result of his tenacity, he has developed very clear educational and vocational goals. He has great vision and can be seen almost as an “old soul, wise beyond his years”. Isaac aspires to be a photojournalist and even has a job as a photoshop instructor for other kids. Along with this job, Isaac also works as a host at a local restaurant, does various community service projects as well as being involved with sports; specifically cross-country and track & field placing at the state level. In an effort to achieve these goals, the rigorous dual credit college preparatory high school program that is the College of Southern Nevada High School, has proven that Isaac can be successful in a college environment. He currently garners a 3.0 college GPA along with carrying a 4.0 weighted high school GPA.

During her Junior year, Annabella’s family experienced an extreme tragedy. Her father took his own life in October 2019. Three months later, her mother also passed away. She and her four siblings struggled to cope with the enormous grief and loss of their parents while also attempting to navigate all of the legalities and financial burdens that came with it. As a student, somehow, Annabella continued to excel in our rigorous dual credit program. She has also been a devoted member of our Student Council. She is incredibly self-aware and has never once played herself as a victim. She has a sweet and indomitable spirit that is an inspiration to her teachers and peers alike. I am so proud to have known her and gratified to have been able to support her in any small way through this challenging time.

Lena decided to transfer to Nevada Learning Academy for her senior year so that she could continue her school work while maintaining her job. Although it was a major transition from traditional to online school, she managed to excel in her studies. She is very passionate about science and the workings of the medical field. She hopes to one day become a physician’s assistant or a nurse anesthetist so that she can assist her own community and make a contribution to the healthcare field.
